Position Purpose 
The incumbent is fully responsible for the housekeeping department. Ensures that the highest possible cleanliness of rooms/ public areas and the hotel surrounding as per company standards. Guest privacy is the order of the day.

Position outputs 

    • Ensure that all room attendants are properly scheduled.
    • Completes the labour request documents timeously for authorization.
    • Responsible for ensuring the departments budget objectives are met by maintaining recommended cost cutting guidelines.
    • Ensure ongoing training for housekeeping staff. Paying attention to personal hygiene appearance, productivity, product knowledge, workflow, service skills attitude and general ability to in relation to the standards of operating procedures.


  • Responsible for ensuring that all linen items/guest laundry received back form the laundry are properly cleaned and laundered.
  • All storerooms are clean and packed without posing any hazardous conditions.Ensure at all times that chemical and guest supplies are adequate for the operation.
  • Ensure that daily stock takes are done before requesting any items to be ordered.
  • Ensures that only SABS approved chemical are used.
  • Conduct sporadic spot check on the room attendants trolleys that the following is in order, par stock level of all linen, all chemical dispenser bottles are clearly marked and right quantities of guest supplies.
  • Maintain customer car at all times.
  • Induct new staff on duty as per job descriptions.
  • Maintain a preventative maintenance programme pay doing a constant reporting and follow up of non-conformance by maintenance department.
  • Create, maintain and improve productive working relationships.
  • Ensure that all rooms status is updated periodically.
  • Informs reception well on time in-case of any rooms to be blocked be it for maintenance or spring cleaning in conjunction with the manager.
  • Liaise directly with health and hygiene companies on periodic services to be conducted.
  • Should act immediately on late check outs that are not reported.
  • Must report to the manager of and do not disturb sign that might be displayed for too long.
  • Ensures that proper records are kept for guests lost and found properties.
  • Keep safe all front office management system reports.
  • Compiles all invoices with supporting documents for further processing by the manager.
  • Ensure spot checks are conducted occasionally on rooms in order to maintain consistency on standards.
  • Ensure that all matter on the hand over books is dealt with promptly.
  • Adheres to company policies and procedures on ordering and receiving of stock and equipments.
  • Ensure that all order requested books are authorised before submission to stores.
  • To create and maintain good personal contact with all guests.
  • Guest complaints are professionally addresses with a satisfactory outcome.
  • Any reasonable guests special requests are acted upon immediately.
  • The service staff is immediately made aware of any important information the might jeopardise the service standards e.g. out of order or blocked rooms.
  • Correct uniform are worn at all times
  • Report any defects or maintenance immediately to the relevant department.

Qualifications & Experience 

  • Grade 12
  • At least 2-5 year experience in Hospitality Housekeeping.
  • English literate speak, write, understand and read
  • Stock Management
  • SAQA Hotel qualification will be an added advatage
