Duties and responsibilities:

  • Clean the first year chemistry laboratory on South Campus.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in said facilities.
  • Clean up chemical spills and broken glassware.
  • Prepare the laboratory for practicals.
  • Handle large quantities of chemicals.
  • Oversee students using laboratory equipment.
  • Remove chemical waste from above mentioned labs.
  • Assist Professional Officers to set-up and unpack the equipment of graduate students.
  • Assist with any additional moving of furniture and cleaning as needed by the Department.

Inherent requirements:

  • Grade 10

Required competencies:

  • Be able to judge risks and take adequate measures when dealing with chemicals.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to function with ease in the University’s richly diverse working environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure when necessary.
  • Good physical strength.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work accurate.
  • Ability to interact with students.


  • Three 3 months’ experience working in a laboratory environment.
